Adobe Design Class
Contractor Danny Martinez is teaching a class on the basics of adobe design, offered through UNM's Continuing Education program. The class covers permits, floors, wall building, solar, and other topics from designing an adobe house to putting on the finished details. The class meets Thursdays 7pm-9pm from February 18 to April 15, 2010, in the Continuing Education South Building. Class fee is $100. UNMCE catalog number is 07500, Adobe Design. Plaster Workshop
A workshop led by lime expert Pat Taylor of Cornerstones fame, exploring a variety of plasters, including cactus juice, lime, clay, and sand. The class will be March 12-19 at the Adobe Alliance in Presidio, Texas. The workshop costs $150 a day for long weekends, or $500 a week, or can be adjusted according to time spent in the workshop. Nubian Vault Workshop
Stevan de la Rosa and Simone Swan work with participants on building a Nubian vault, from the engineering to the laying of bricks.The class will be March 12-19 at the Adobe Alliance in Presidio, Texas. Planning Class
The Southwest SolarAdobe School is giving a class on planning adobe and compressed block projects. The class will cover codes, plans, permits, passive solar, and designs. The class will be held March 27th and 28th, and a second class will be held April 10th and 11th. Both classes will be in Albuquerque, NM, at the Courtyard Marriot at I-25 and Paseo Del Norte. Hands-on Adobe and Pressed Block Class
The Southwest SolarAdobe School is giving a hands-on class on building with adobe and compressed earthen block. The class is a great way to become familiar with the tools and methods used for building. It will be held May 15th and 16th near Belen. The class costs $255 per person or $433 for two people. Hands-on Rammed Earth and Adobe Class
The Southwest SolarAdobe School is giving a hands-on class on working with rammed earth and adobe. The class will focus on materials and tools and will work on real walls. The Solar Fiesta!
The Solar Fiesta is a gathering put on by the New Mexico Solar Energy Association for green-minded people and companies. It is held every September in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The Fiesta includes booths and displays from dozens of companies, and is open to the public. New Mexico Earth presents a hands-on demonstration of adobe making and building, with lots of help from volunteers! Visit www.NMSEA.org for information on the next Solar Fiesta.
