I lived in the Bay Area many years ago before retirement and took painting classes at the San Francisco Art Institute and since then have always been studying and working. My work has been in shows in upstate New York and I have exhibited in galleries in New York and New Jersey. Since moving to Sonoma County I have exhibited at local galleries and in shows at the Sebastopol Center for the Arts, Art on the Move, Oakmont Gallery, Sonoma County Fair, Marin County Fair, Harvest Fair, Sonoma-Marin Fair, CA State Fair, Fineline Productions, Cultural Arts Council of Sonoma County, Kokopelli Gallery, Hop Kiln Winery, Taft Street Winery, Natíl Bank of the Redwoods, Sebastopol Library and the Santa Rosa Steele Lane Community Center.
In the past few years I have been focusing on monoprints and I also work in water colors. The monoprint technique lends itself to spontaneity and freshness and combined with other media, such as ink and watercolor, makes possible many variations. I like to have some recognizable subject matter in my work but also enough abstraction to create some mystery and complexity. At the same time I want it to be still pleasing to the beholder. Color is very important in this regard and I concentrate on creating harmonies and contrasts. Subjects include Western landscapes, animals, marine themes, natural objects and abstracts. These often derive from living in California and New Mexico.
In addition I use my monoprints and watercolors as the basis of digital art.
