TEG Meetings and Tours

Adobe is Not Software Classes

Adobe in Action Classes
Adobe in Action offers online and hands-on classes with instructor Kurt Gardella. Classes include: Passive Solar Adobe Design, NM Adobe Building Permit Process, History and Basics of Adobe Construction, Foundations for Adobe Structures, and many more. The Southwest SolarAdobe School
The Southwest SolarAdobe school offers classes all year long. Learn how to build a rammed earth home to code, plan the stages of building a house, lay adobe and compressed earth block, or build an arch. SWSA classes are designed both for the homeowner and the contractor. Both hands-on and indoor classes are available. To see current class offerings visit the SWSA website.

The Solar Fiesta!
The Solar Fiesta is a gathering put on by the New Mexico Solar Energy Association for green-minded people and companies. The Fiesta is held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and includes booths and displays from dozens of companies. New Mexico Earth often attends and presents a hands-on demonstration of adobe making and building, with lots of help from volunteers! Visit and NMSEA for information on the next Solar Fiesta.

Adobe Design Class
UNM's Continuing Education program offers classes on the basics of Adobe design. The class, taught by contractor Danny Martinez, covers permits, floors, wall building, solar, and other topics from designing an adobe house to putting on the finished details. Nubian Vault Workshop
Stevan de la Rosa and Simone Swan work with participants on building a Nubian vault, from the engineering to the laying of bricks. A beautiful style of woodless roof, the Nubian vault is a geat way to start learning earth architecture. The class is held at the Adobe Alliance in Presidio, Texas.
